Always felt overwhelmed? Thought that 24 hours is not enough for you in the day? Felt tired of daily job? Not enough time to be with your family? You need time management helps!

• Clarify your goals and strategy. Be very clear about your aims and ambitions, both short and long term. Write them down. Once you know what you really want to achieve (and why) it's easier to make decisions about what needs doing, and to plan accordingly.

• Focus on your top priorities. You'll be more productive and profitable if you identify and.focus on the areas most important to your business. Work on the fundamentals first. The Latin word 'fundamentum' means foundation – so take action, build strong foundations and the rest should follow.

• Say no! Consider Jim Rohn's suggestion. "Learn how to say no. Don't let your mouth overload your back." Always check your schedule before committing to anything new. Don't allow others to divert you from your objectives.

• Take a reality check. Will your current activity have a positive outcome, or are you doing it to avoid something else? Ask yourself – will doing this take me towards my goal? As Peter F Drucker observed "There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all."

• Repeat your success. Remember the last time you went away on holiday, and how you got so much done in those few days before you left? What strategies and techniques did you employ that made you so effective and focused? Can you repeat them? Alternatively, imagine you are going away tomorrow and work through today accordingly.

• Delegate! It's tempting to do something yourself when you think you can do it faster and better. But consider the long term – delegation now will save time in the future, and if done appropriately can motivate your staff, boost their confidence and help them develop their skills.

Mind Power: Words Of Wisdom For Positive Thinking PDF Print E-mail

Perhaps the most powerful influence on your attitude and personality is what you say to yourself, and believe. It is not what happens to you, but how you respond internally to what happens to you, that determine your thoughts and feelings, mind power, and, ultimately, your actions. By controlling your inner dialogue, or "self-talk," you can begin to assert control over every other dimension of your life.

Thought for the Day

Your self-talk "the words that you use to describe what is happening to you, and to discuss how you feel about external events" determines the quality and tone of your emotional life. When you see things positively and constructively and look for the good in each situation and each person, you have a tendency to remain naturally positive and optimistic. Since the quality of your life is determined by how you feel, moment to moment, one of your most important goals should be to use every psychological technique available to keep yourself thinking about what you want and to keep your mind off of what you don't want, or what you fear.

Arnold Toynbee, the historian, developed what he called the "challenge-response theory" of history. In studying the rise and fall of 20 major world civilizations, Toynbee concluded that each civilization started out as a small group of people as a village, as a tribe or in the case of the Mongol empire, as just three people who had survived the destruction of their small community.

Toynbee concluded that each of these small groups faced external challenges, such as hostile tribes. In order to survive, much less thrive, these small groups had to reorganize themselves to deal positively and constructively with these challenges.

By meeting each of these challenges successfully, the village or tribe would grow. Even greater challenges would be triggered as a result. And if this group of people continued to meet each challenge by drawing upon its resources and winning out, it would continue to grow until ultimately it became a nation-state and then a civilization covering a large geographical area.

Toynbee looked at the 21 great civilizations of human history, ending with the American civilization, and concluded that these civilizations began to decline and fall apart when their citizens and leaders lost the will or ability to rise to the inevitable external challenges occasioned by their very size and power.

Number One Component For Success PDF Print E-mail

I doubt that many would dispute what I am about to say, but if you do, please let me know. Motivation, preparation, clear goals, research and development, consistent action, and flexibility are the essential steps to success, but all – and I do mean ALL – pieces of success in life depend on our ability to do this one task: communicate effectively! Yes, the number one component to success in all areas of life is our individual ability to communicate well.

Communication is perhaps also the most difficult function we do for many reasons. I have always marveled that all people have two eyes, two ears, a nose and a mouth, and yet no two people are absolutely identical. Even “identical twins” have subtle differences. The same is true about communication; each person does it very differently. Our methods of communicating are as individual as we each are individual and unique. Emotion, education, environment, tone of voice, volume, facial expression, body language, and character…it all counts in communication. For these central reasons and so many more, effective communication is perhaps the most challenging of human pursuits.

Language is not communication; our respective languages are only the symbols – the common vehicle – that we use to understand each other. Language is a shared ‘frame of reference’. Most definitely, our effectiveness in communicating hinges on our use of – and our mastery of – language, but is not the core of communicating, as many people might argue.

Effective communication comes from our individual focus, core values, and the ultimate directions we take in our lives…perhaps our choices shape our communication once we are able to speak and begin to think for ourselves. Oddly enough, our communication level tends to shape our choices as well. Practice makes perfect (or as perfect as it gets), and we all tend to end up ‘learning the language of our lifestyle’. If my years have put me in the seat of a John Deere tractor tilling the soil of my farmland, it is most likely that the language and communication in my life is vastly different than the corporate executive harvesting the fruits of his business land. Our ability to communicate effectively is to meet the demands of our focus, our core values, and the directions we select in life.
